D.C. Externship Program Set for Spring 2014

Now law students can add Washington, D.C., along with one of the longest running and most respected Law in London programs in the country, to the list of programs for experiential learning. Beginning in January 2014, 25 second- and third-year law students can participate in a program that combines professional experience with unique coursework to develop an understanding of how lawyers function in the nation’s capital.

Appellate Team Wins Regionals, Will Go To Nationals

The College of Law's National Appellate team placed first in the National Appellate Moot Court Regional Competition in Boston, Nov. 16-17. The team advances to the national final rounds to be held in New York City in February.

The team also won best advocate of the competition (team member Matthew Kranzthor '14), and second best brief. Finally, all team members were awarded the Justice Lewis F. Powell medal for excellence in advocacy by the American College of Trial Lawyers for the National Appellate Moot Court Competition.

Sen. Mitchell Visits with INSCT, Remembrance Scholars

Senator George J. Mitchell returned to Syracuse University on Nov. 12, 2013 to discuss prospects for global peace and how (or if) the world has changed in the 25 years since the bombing of Pan Am 103. Before his University Lecture on the subject, he sat down with INSCT Director William C. Banks, law students, honors students, and current and former SU Remembrance Scholars in the Maxwell School. A highly respected senator, Mitchell became Senate Majority Leader on Jan. 3, 1989, two weeks after the Pan Am 103 tragedy.

Warrior Run and Flag Dedication Honors Veterans

On Monday, November 11, 2013, the Syracuse University College of Law's V.I.S.I.O.N. organization, led by Thomas Caruso L’14 and Joshua Keefe L’14, hosted its inaugural Warrior Run as part of the University's Veterans Day activities. The Warrior Run was a 2.2 mile military-style formation run that brought the community together to honor and remember our nation's veterans. Over 70 people participated in the run, including veteran and civilian students from the University, local military personnel, alumni and community members.

The run was followed by a flag dedication ceremony at the College of Law. Captain Rafael Warfield L'08 (USMC) video-conferenced in from Guam to dedicate an American flag he secured during a recent tour to Afghanistan.

The Campaign for Dineen Hall - Opening Summer 2014

Construction of Dineen Hall is on track with crews preparing for the Syracuse winter ahead. A combination of brick, glass and shrink wrap - the same material used to wrap and winterize boats - is being used to fully enclose the site, allowing the interior finishing work to continue on schedule.

Some additional highlights:

  • The building was switched from temporary power to permanent power on Nov. 4th.
  • Exterior masonry work is complete.
  • Dry wall installation on floors 1-4 is underway
